St Mary Portsea’s tower dominates the surrounding Portsmouth cityscape, and had been in urgent need of repair in recent years. After painstaking specialist measuring, surveying and detailing, a comprehensive restoration package was prepared. This addressed faults on all four faces of the tower’s stonework and twenty-four windows.

The detailed schedule was carried out on twenty-seven scaffold levels, replacing or repairing individually numbered stones, mullions and glazing panes, to rejuvenate the tower’s ailing façade. The successful work can be read about in the ‘The News’ article. As has been reported, the completed work should allow the Grade II listed tower to function, with simple maintenance, for another one hundred years.
